so many amazing sounds to work with! i just want to use them alllllllll.

for at least six months i’ve wanted to make a Nature Boy remix/tribute with my warped Nat King Cole record. i can’t remember if someone gave me that record back in high school or if i traded someone a cassette for it. regardless, it’s a two record set and i had never bothered to check the condition of the records, until i got my record player fixed back in May (after a hundred years/ninth grade/a hundred years/holy shit, seven years). i was very disappointed to find out that the second record- the one with Nature Boy on it (D:) was warped…but(!) it gave the song a very glitch/click kind of feel. i decided that i really wanted to record it and manipulate the sounds even more and make it my own.

today, i bought a bunch of stuff at Half Price Books and among those things was a Nat King Cole cassette for fifty cents. the cassette also was pretty worn down and had some glorious pops and hisses scattered throughout the track and i decided that tonight had to be the night that i finally recorded the vinyl and deconstructed the track.

i set about recording and unfortunately, the record had/s warped even more and now the track is scarcely recognisable. i decided to record and use the cassette version as the base, and still record and add in parts of the vinyl version.

i’m currently reviewing everything i’ve recorded (three takes- one cassette take, one take of the sound of the cassette playing before the music plays [it’s an enchanting sound, truly], and one long vinyl take full of needle manipulation that provided an array of beats and melodies) and forming a really great picture in my head. i can only hope that  i can make it match my expectations.
